WHAT IS
MSK ULTRASOUND SCAN

MSK ultrasound scan stands for Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Scan and is an image-diagnostic assessment that uses ultrasound waves to produce images of muscles, tendons, joints and bones. This type of ultrasound scan is typically used to evaluate injuries, inflammations or other conditions in the musculoskeletal system.

WHY
ULTRASOUND SCAN

MSK ultrasound scanning is used to evaluate damage and inflammation in the musculoskeletal system, in what we call a real-time image.
It is a non-invasive imaging technique, which means that the scan is performed outside the body. The advantage is clearly that it can provide a quick and accurate diagnosis, without waiting for results.

Ultrasound scanning is also a relatively cheap and easily accessible examination compared to, for example, MRI scanning. And in addition, the ultrasound scan can be performed with movement of joints and tendon tissue.

Ultrasound scanning is also good for assessing the effect of a treatment or rehabilitation after an injury.

HOW WORKS
ULTRASOUND SCAN

Ultrasound scanning works by using ultrasound waves to create images of muscles, tendons, joints and bones. Ultrasound waves are high-frequency sound waves that cannot be heard by humans.

When these waves are sent into the body via a hand-held transducer, they are reflected by the body's tissues, including muscles, tendons, joints and bones. The reflected ultrasound waves are picked up by the transducer and converted into images on a screen.

During an ultrasound scan, the physiotherapist can move the transducer over the area to be examined and see real-time images of the internal structures in motion. .
